A banned driver with previous driving convictions committed a string of offences during a single night out, a court has heard.
Jason Liam Christian kicked off his nocturnal capers by making off without paying for £49 worth of fuel on June 7.
James Robinson, for the prosecution, said the 24-year-old, filled up at 1.30am at the EVF petrol station on Bray Hill before making off with out paying. But he was captured on CCTV and recognnised by police who viewed it.
Later the same night, he was seen driving erratically, cruising slowly along Victoria Street in Douglas while revving his car engine loudly.
When police stepped into the road to stop the car, it swerved past and took off at high speed. Other police also tried without success to stop the car.
Mr Robinson told the court Christian was banned from driving for four years in 2014 and was therefore both unlicensed and uninsured.
Just four days later, when police tried to arrest him for a breach of bail, they found him at a house in Tent Road in Laxey.
The Clio was found abandoned with a puncture in a lane between Tent Road and Shore Road.
Christian, of Approach Road, Ramsey, admitted breaching his driving ban on June 7 and 11, careless driving, having no insurance, failing to stop and making off without payment on June 7.
He also admitted driving a car in a dangerous state after an examination of the Renault Clio found it had defects in the lights, tyres, exhaust, suspension, windscreen washers and brake lights on June 6.
Mr Robinson told the court Christian had ’significant’ previous convictions.
Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes noted Christian was also in breach of a Court of General Gaol Delivery licence which does not expire until October 2015.
No bail application was made and he has now been committed for sentence to the Court of General Gaol Delivery.
’I’m not satisfied that the powers of this court are sufficient to deal with you,’ she told him.
He was remanded in custody to reappear on July 3.
