A 16-year-old boy has appeared in court accused of attacking a man with a hammer at a bus stop.

The teenager, who is too young to be named, is charged with attempted malicious wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm, possession of an offensive weapon and aggravated assault.

The incident is alleged to have taken place on May 30.

The boy is accused of hitting the victim in the head with the hammer during a row while the victim was waiting at a bus stop outside the boy’s home.

Defence advocate Paul Glover applied for bail but this was denied by High Bailiff Jayne Hughes who remanded the boy to the White Hoe adolescent secure unit.

The case was adjourned until June 9 when he will appear in juvenile court.
