A burglar targeted his former workplace to steal and then sell thousands of pounds worth of electrical goods.
David Christopher Cain, of Cullyn Link, Anagh Coar, took a TV, a dishwasher, a washer dryer and cooking hobs worth £2,385 from a warehouse used by Manx Independent Carriers, where he previously worked.
The warehouse stored goods belonging to Currys PC World, where the 32-year-old was working until the incident.
He admitted an offence of burglary theft when he appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes on Tuesday.
Prosecuting advocate Rebecca Cubbon told the court the burglary was reported to police on November 17 after an audit by Manx Independent Carriers revealed that several items were missing from a warehouse.
CCTV footage showed a van, without registration plates, arrive on November 17 with Cain and an unknown male inside.
Cain used a key code, which he knew from his previous employment at Manx Independent Carriers, to deactivate the alarm and the duo could then be seen putting items into the van.
Police spoke to Cain at PC World and he said: ’I won’t have a job here anymore.’
His home was searched but none of the stolen goods were found.
However, clothes were seized which matched ones which Cain could be seen wearing on the CCTV footage.
In a police interview, Cain admitted committing the burglary, saying that he needed money and that his partner was ill.
He told officers that he had sold all the goods for a total of £400.
Defence advocate Matthew Wilshaw said that Cain had lost his job and would now be claiming benefits.
High Bailiff Jayne Hughes accepted jurisdiction for sentencing and said that the crime had involved planning and was a breach of trust.
Cain will be sentenced on January 20 after a probation report has been completed.
Bail was granted in the sum of £500 with conditions that Cain live at his home address, contact probation, and not leave the island without court permission.
