A 45-year-old woman Douglas woman has admitted altering her motor insurance certificate to pretend she was still insured to police.

Dorothy Victoria Slater, of Hailwood Avenue, pleaded guilty to charges of uttering with intent to deceive, having no insurance and having no vehicle licence, and will be sentenced on August 3.

The court heard how Slater was stopped in her Mercedes while driving from Broadway onto Central Promenade on April 8.

Her vehicle licence had expired in February 2017 and she was ordered to produce her insurance at a police station within five days.

On April 10 she handed in insurance documents but police suspected that they had been altered and dates had been written over.

When interviewed Slater admitted she had altered her certificate so it appeared she had been insured at the time she was stopped.

Defence advocate Louise Cooil asked for an adjourment to allow time for the preparation of a probation report before sentencing.Bail was granted.
