A drink-driver whose car ended up on its side after crashing into a hedge has been fined £1,300 and banned for three years.
Mia Kneale, of Main Road, Kirk Michael, failed a breathalyser test with a reading of 89 and was also fined £400 for having no insurance.
The 27-year-old admitted both offences and magistrates ordered her to retake her test after the ban and complete a drink-driving rehabilitation course.
Prosecuting advocate Rebecca Cubbon told the court that Kneale was seen leaving the Royal George pub in Ramsey at 11.47pm on May 28.
She walked to Quay Street then got into a Vauxhall Astra and drove away.
Police then received a report of a crash on May Hill in Ramsey where a witness had helped Kneale get out of the car, which was on its side.
After failing a roadside breathalyser test she was arrested and taken to police headquarters where she failed a further test with the 89 reading. The legal limit is 35.
Kneale told police she had drunk three glasses of wine.
She said that she had insurance but checks found that her policy had been cancelled in March. Defence advocate Peter Taylor said: ’This is one of these tales where someone has had a few drinks over a few hours and thought they were sober enough to drive.
’Ms Kneale completed all the breathalyser procedures.
With regards to the insurance Mr Taylor said that Kneale had been paying via direct debit and getting her post sent to her father’s home. She said that a reminder had arrived there during lockdown and she had not collected it.
’She did believe she was insured at the time,’ said the advocate.
Mr Taylor went on to say that Kneale was currently serving time in prison due to non-payment of fines and was not due to be released until July 26.
He added that Kneale was trying to sell her car and asked for her to be given until August 5 to pay her new fine.
Magistrates chair David Christian told Kneale: ’Thankfully nobody was injured but somebody easily could have been.’
She was also ordered to pay £125 prosecution costs.
