A Douglas man has been fined £600 and had his driving licence endorsed with 11 penalty points.
Leigh Robinson, whose age was not given in court, of Greenfield Road, admitted offences of driving with no insurance and two counts of having defective tyres.
Prosecutor Rebecca Cubbon told the court that Robinson was stopped by police on Douglas Road in Ballasalla on May 6 at 10.30am.
His two front tyres had the cord exposed and his insurance was found to have expired two days earlier.
Defence advocate Winston Taylor said the worn tread of the tyres was on the inner thread and was difficult to see from the front.
’Mr Robinson said he normally checks his tyres and that they looked normal to him.’
He added: ’Regarding the insurance, he was aware of it. It was due to be renewed on the Saturday. He was working and unfortunately didn’t finish on time to renew it.
’Then the insurance office was closed on Sunday and it was a bank holiday on the Monday.’
He was fined £100 for each of the two tyres and £400 for the insurance offence.
