Police in the island are continuing efforts to identify the body of a man found at Dog Mills beach in the north of the island.

The body was found by a member of the public on the beach at 7am on Wednesday, April 10.

Manx police said that when an incident such as this occurs they contact neighbouring forces to check for missing persons. A spokesman added: ’At this time we don’t have any firm identification but have received contact from several forces.’

However, police in Dumfries, Scotland, took to Facebook and commented on the discovery of the body, suggesting it could be 74-year-old Gavin Tait who went missing from the area more than four weeks ago.

A spokesman for police in Dumfries said: ’We are aware of the discovery of a man’s body on a beach on the Isle of Man on Wednesday morning.

’As part of our investigation we are liaising with staff from Isle of Man Constabulary as they attempt to establish the man’s identity.

’We have informed Gavin’s next of kin of this development however we must stress the identity of the man’s body has not yet been established.’
