A 39-year-old Laxey woman has been fined £300 by magistrates after admitting driving a vehicle in a dangerous condition.

Rachel Alison Keggin, of All Saints Park, also had her licence endorsed with three penalty points.

The court heard how, on January 24 at 8pm, police were called to Main Road in Onchan after Keggin reported her car broken down there.

Police attended and tried to move the car but it made a clunking noise when moved forward and was subsequently taken to the vehicle test centre at Tromode.

When interviewed by officers Keggin said that she heard a screeching sound and the car suddenly came to a halt.

A vehicle inspector found that the car’s brake discs were excessively worn and two of the car’s tyres were devoid of tread.

Defence advocate David Clegg said that Keggin was embarrassed by the incident.

’It was she who phoned the police because she was worried she was causing an obstruction.’

Keggin must also pay £50 prosecution costs.
