A man has been fined £200 and ordered to pay £388 compensation after breaking a glass door at the Palace casino in Douglas.

Jonathan Lennon Taylor, of Keppel Road, in Douglas, admitted causing property damage.

Prosecutor Hazel Carroon told the court how, on July 16, police were called to the Palace after staff reported Taylor damaging the door.

He was said to be inside the hotel and asked staff if he could use a phone.

However, he didn’t use the phone and was asked by staff to leave if he was not going to make a call.

Taylor left but was said to be angry, striking the door with both hands as he left.

Staff noted the door was damaged and Taylor was then seen outside holding something that looked like a stone in his hand.

Police arrested him but as he was taken to police headquarters he was said to have been rude and confrontational.

He then admitted damaging the door and offered to pay for it.

Defence advocate Jane Gray said that her client had no previous convictions.

’He doesn’t normally drink or smoke,’ said the advocate.

’His family came over for a christening and then he went out to watch the football and had a number of drinks.

’The alcohol obviously had an effect on him and he deeply regrets his actions.’

Meanwhile Taylor was also fined £200 for having two defective tyres on his Ford Fiesta while delivering for a takeaway kebab company.

He was stopped by police in Laxey on May 12. The car was taken to the vehicle test centre and found to have two defective tyres.

Ms Gray said Taylor had thought it was his employer’s responsibility to check the tyres. Taylor’s licence was endorsed with three penalty points.
