A man who who was found with class ’B’ drug ketamine inside his underwear has been fined.

James Gibson Collinson, of Eyreton Lea, Crosby, ran from police when they approached him and hid the drug .

The 23-year-old was fined £250 when he appeared before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes for sentencing last week.

Prosecuting advocate Barry Swain told the court how police saw Collinson with a group of people at CTH Insurance car park near Market Street in Douglas on March 17 at 1.28am.

As police approached the group, Collinson started to walk off and was asked to stop, but then began running.

Police caught up with him and a small bag of white powder was found hidden in his underwear. It was valued at between £20 and £25

When interviewed, Collinson told police that it gave him a sense of ’euphoria’.

Collinson told officers that he was suffering from depression and that medication had not been working so he had tried ketamine.

He said he had bought the drug for £40.

Mr Swain said that the ketamine had been described as 20 keys worth as people took it by dipping a key in then snorting it.

Defence advocate Jim Travers said that Collinson had not heard what police had said when he ran off initially.

Collinson pleaded guilty to a charge of drugs possession.

Mr Travers asked for credit to be given for Collinson’s guilty plea and the full and frank admissions he had made in police interview and at the scene.

The advocate said that Collinson had put recreational drugs behind him since the incident.

Collinson was also ordered to pay £50 prosecution costs.

Magistrates ordered Collinson to pay the fine and costs at a rate of £100 per month.
