A Douglas man has been put on probation after threatening a barman at Sam Webb’s pub.

Brian Michael Mark Gilmour, of Farmhill, told the man: ’I’ll knock you out’ after he was refused a drink.

He admitted an offence of disorderly behaviour on licensed premises.

Gilmour was due in court on Tuesday (September 3) but didn’t turn up and a warrant was issued for his arrest.

Prosecutor Roger Kane told the court how 39-year-old Gilmour had gone into Sam Webb’s in Castle Street at 2pm on August 27.

He was initially served and had a pint then left the premises.

However, at 3.10pm Gilmour appeared back at the bar and was refused service due to being too intoxicated.

He was asked to leave but refused, becoming aggressive and swearing at the barman saying: ’Give me a vodka to take out.’

Aggressive

The barman told Gilmour the police would be called if he did not leave but this only prompted him to swear again and say: ’You grass, get outside, I’ll knock you out,’ and point his finger at the man aggressively.

Police arrived 20 minutes later but Gilmour had gone.

He was found on Broadway and said to be smelling of alcohol, slurring his words, and unsteady on his feet.

At police headquarters he gave no comment to all questions.

A probation report said that Gilmour had admitted he was extremely intoxicated and said that events at Sam Webb’s were a ’complete blank’.

Gilmour told probation that his life had been blighted by alcohol problems and that he pretty much drank every day but he wanted to change his life.

The report said that Gilmour had stayed in rehab a number of times and was working with Motiv8.

It was also said that he had recently been discharged by mental health services.

Magistrates ruled that the probation order should run for 12 months.
