A Ramsey man found with £500 worth of cannabis has been fined.
Derek Salt, aged 55, was caught with 25 grams of the drug at his home at St Paul’s Square, on March 15.
Prosecutor Barry Swain told the court how police executed a search warrant at the address but Salt was not present.
A search of the property found the drugs in two glass jars under a sofa.
Also found was a hydroponic pod in a large double fridge. Dry cuttings were also found.
Salt arrived home and was arrested and when interviewed admitted possessing the drug for personal use.
Defence advocate Louise Cooil said that her client used to be a roofer but had suffered an injury after a fall.
Ms Cooil said that Salt had undergone significant rehabilitation and taken a large amount of painkillers which had led to him becoming addicted to them.
Salt said that he had then attempted to replace the painkillers with cannabis.
Ms Cooil said that Salt had now begun using CBD oil.
’He has taken significant steps to remove his cannabis use,’ said the advocate.
The court heard that Salt’s last conviction was 10 years ago.
High Bailiff Jayne Hughes fined Salt £500 and ordered that he pay £125 prosecution costs.
