A 39-year-old Port Erin man has been fined £550 for two driving-related offences.
Paul Richard Caisley, of Princess Towers, was fined £500 for driving without due care and attention, and £50 for having no vehicle licence.
He also had his driving licence endorsed with eight penalty points.
The court heard how, on May 19 at 7.30am, Caisley was driving a BMW at the Fort North roundabout in Braddan, when he hit a lamppost.
He was said to have mounted the kerb before he hit the post.
Caisley’s licence was found to have expired in 2015.
Defence advocate Deborah Myerscough said in court: ’Mr Caisley had a licence for a number of years with no issues. It was a lapse in his standard of driving that caused this.
’Regarding his licence, unfortunately there has been a lapse in terms of paperwork. He got divorced and moved address but didn’t inform anyone at the driving licence office.
’He is embarrassed he hasn’t done that.’
Chair of the magistrates Ken Faragher said while passing sentence: ’It is very lucky no-one was walking on the pavement that day.’
