A 21-year-old man has appeared in court accused of murdering his mother and attempting to murder his father.

James Price, of Croft Park, Andreas, appeared today via video link before High Bailiff Jayne Hughes.

The court heard that at 2.05am on Sunday (January 17) the emergency services joint control room responded to a 999 call made by the defendant’s grandmother who reported an assault at the address on Croft Park.

Officers arrived at the address and spoke to the defendant’s father David Price, who told them he had been pushed over and strangled with a towel.

Police found the accused’s mother, Jacquelyn Price, unconscious on her back underneath a duvet in a bedroom.

Paramedics pronounced her dead at 2.27am.

Mrs Hughes remanded James Price in custody until his next appearance in court on January 26 at 10am.

A date was set for committal proceedings to the Court of General Gaol Delivery on March 16.

No application for bail was made.
