A 35-year-old man has been fined £550 for being drunk and disorderly.

Ryan Eugene O’Kane admitted the offence and was also banned from buying or being sold alcohol for six months.

Prosecuting advocate Rebecca Cubbon told the court that police stopped O’Kane on Strand Street in Douglas on May 28 at 12.35am.

He was said to be slurring his words and smelling of alcohol.

O’Kane, of Fairfield Terrace, Douglas, was said to have become hostile during a search and swore, telling one officer: ’I’ll see you when you’re not working.’

He continued to swear despite numerous warnings and told police: ’I earn more than all of you together. I’ll see you again.’

Defence advocate Paul Glover asked for credit to be given for his client’s guilty plea and said that O’Kane wished to express his embarrassment and remorse.

’He accepts the police have a job to do,’ said the advocate.

Mr Glover asked that his client be spared a ban from entering licensed premises as his employment, which was said to involve roof work, required this on occasions.’

The advocate said that O’Kane could offer to pay any fine at a rate of £50 per month.

Magistrates spared him the ban on entering licensed premises but ordered him to pay his fine and costs at a rate of £75 per month.
