The police are appealing for witnesses to come forward following a serious assault.

Officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) are investigating the incident that occurred around 6.20pm on Friday, August 13.

The incident occurred outside the pharmacy on Windsor Road and involved two males.

One male received significant but non-life threatening facial injuries which required hospital treatment and he was later released.

The second male was arrested shortly after the assault and this male has been charged with assault charges and will appear in court on Monday.

The police stated that they know there were a number of individuals in the area at the time who witnessed the incident, some of which have provided their details already.

CID are appealing for individuals that haven’t provided their details to the police to come forward to assist with the investigation.

They also addressed a video which has been widely shared on social media, saying: ’Police are also aware that this incident has been publicised on social media and we are appealing to the public not to speculate or comment on social media as to the cause of the incident or naming those believed to be involved, as this could have a detrimental effect for any potential judicial process.’
