Police are asking shops across the island to restrict the sale of eggs and flour to young people in the run up to Hop tu Naa.

In a statement, officers said: ’Hop tu Naa can be a night that some people dread, not because of the ghosts and ghouls that freely roam on this night but for fear their property will be pelted with eggs and flour for no other reason than for a minority of young people thinking its fun to do.

’Enjoy Hop tu Naa but respect people’s rights not to participate if they do not want to. A good rule of thumb to follow is only visit houses that openly display they are taking part in the nights ghoulish festivities. Make sure your turnips are carved and lit.’

The statement continues: ’Stay safe and beware of Jinny the Witch.’
