Police are investigating a series of related incidents in Ramsey last night.

First, a number of people lit fireworks close to the swing bridge in Ramsey last night.

That led to what officers described as a "conflict" with a number of other people.

Minutes later, a man and woman were assaulted by a group of men on Queen’s Promenade.

A police spokesman said: ’It would appear that these incidents are linked, and that the persons instigating the conflict in both locations stated are one and the same.

’Officers are keen to speak with anyone who may have seen the incidents in question and ask in addition to this that, should you have any information that may be helpful to police in this inquiry, that you make contact with staff at Ramsey police station in person, or on the telephone (812234) to assist.

’Officers are particularly interested in speaking with a group of male cyclists, who were believed to be in the area at the time of both incidents.

’This group of cyclists is described as being comprised of around 20 males, aged between 30 and 50 years of age. The group is believed to have travelled from Ramsey to Laxey immediately following the events.’
