The police are asking residents to be vigilant against fraudsters targeting people during the Covid-19 pandemic.

Officers are particularly wanting people to contact elderly and vulnerable people to ensure they don’t get scanned.

A police spokesman said: ’Sorry to say there are a number of scams knocking about. One involves a messenger call from an ’Agent James Smith’.

’Another involves a person saying they are from the Isle of Man, they are not, but they do try to get money from you to do your shopping.

’If you make a call to a local number you know and arrange a service or delivery, that’s OK - in fact vital at these times.’

’Don’t get involved with people that ring or message you out of the blue.

’There are lots of great local people and shops helping out vulnerable people, don’t the these off Island criminals spoil that good work.’

If you have any concerns about a phone call you receive, hang up and never give your personal details to someone you don’t know or who calls unexpectedly.
