Police have responded to accusations of heavy handedness.
The clip had more than 20,000 views and nearly 1,000 people commented on the post where the video was shared.
In response, a police spokesman said: ’The Isle of Man Constabulary is aware of an eight-second video involving a juvenile girl who was restrained and arrested by our officers.
’This eight-second video is an edited clip of a longer incident that occurred on July 7, this video does not capture the full context of the incident.
’All our officers undergo mandatory training in the use of control and restraint, in this incident the officer has used approved techniques. As the incident involves a juvenile the police will not comment further.’
Police have also commented on a separate incident in which an officer tasered a German Shepherd dog.
Constable David Schumacher, confirmed he was the officer, as he got in to a discussion on Twitter with one of the dog’s owners, 19-year-old Connor Hislop. Mr Hislop tweeted saying the police had ’assumed my dog was dangerous, when that’s far from reality’.
The police spokesman said: ’The police are aware of media and public interest following the use of a taser to control a dog which was loose and unaccompanied in the area of a children’s playground in Wybourne Grove, Onchan, this occurred on July 13.
’Police were called by members of the public who were fearful of the dog due to its aggressive behaviour. A taser was used to gain control of the dog and to provide protection to the public and the officer at the location.
’The police are not in a position to comment further on this matter at this time.’
Mr Hislop later added the dog ’seems fine’.
