Police are warning residents to be careful of text message scams which falsely promise financial aid during the coronavirus pandemic.
The banking sector first made the Office of Cyber Security and Information Assurance aware of the SMS texts, which prompt people to click a link.
The scam reads: ’URGENT: UKGOV has issued a payment of 458 GPD to all residents as part of its promise to battle COVID 19.’
It then directs residents to a link, telling them to ’tap here to apply’.
Police tweeted about it on @TweetbeatIOM, adding ’How low can scammers go?’
