Police have warned residents to ensure their flood defences are in place following an amber weather warning from the Met Office.

Beach Buddies has cancelled a planned beach clean at the Point of Ayre due to the flood warning.

Meanwhile the big clean-up operation continues in lower Laxey following the devastating floods on October 1.

Work is under way in the village to repair and replace the breached river wall and clear the stream and tributaries of debris.

Police posted on Facebook: ’Be aware that there is an amber weather warning for today. Very heavy rain is forecast for the middle part of the day, please ensure your flood defences are in place.’

Beach Buddies founder Bill Dale posted:’Sorry for the late notice, but this morning’s amber flood warning has resulted in Beach Buddies reluctantly calling off today’s beach cleaning session at the Point of Ayre.

’We will go there next week instead. In case anyone is already on the road, there will be a small team at the Point with equipment available for those who have already started the journey.
