The police have called for people to remain vigilant when securing their property despite the island being ’a wonderful and safe place.’

Overnight, police have arrested a local person on suspicion of a number of thefts that they believe have occurred overnight in the south of the island.

In a statement, they said: ’We are asking residents in Port St Mary; Gansey and Colby to check their vehicles, sheds and outbuildings.

’We would like to remind residents across the island that although we live and work in a wonderful and safe place, we mustn’t become complacent.

’Don’t ignore basic safety and security measures.

’Please make sure that when you leave your car you lock it.

’Also make sure that any shed or outbuildings are properly secured with locks/padlocks.’

If you live in the Port St Mary, Gansey and Colby area and discover that items are missing, call police HQ on 631212.
