A large part of Ramsey faced a power cut yesterday evening (Thursday) following what Manx Utilities said was a ’significant equipment failure’ at the substation at Lezayre Park. Some 1,200 homes and business including supermarkets were affected across the town.
Engineers were deployed immediately and were supported by emergency services as a precautionary measure.
Supplies for the majority of affected customers were restored just over an hour later by MU operational staff re-routing the power around the affected substation.
Support and advice was given to vulnerable customers in the area, the utility said.
An investigation into the causes of the failure has been launched.
Works will start today on repairing the substation and returning the power network back to normal.
Manx Utilities said its team acted quickly and efficiently to return supplies back to normal as a ’matter of urgency’.
Its chairman and Ramsey MHK, Dr Alex Allinson, took to Twitter to thank all those who responded to the problem.
