A drink-driver from Ramsey has been sentenced to 120 hours’ community service and banned from driving for three years.

Anna Elizabeth Shimmin failed a breathalyser test with a reading of 90. The legal limit is 35.

High Bailiff Jayne Hughes also ordered Shimmin to retake her test at the end of the ban and complete a drink-driving rehabilitation course.

Prosecuting advocate Hazel Carroon told the court that police were called to the Royal George pub in Ramsey on September 4 shortly after 1am.

Staff there reported seeing Shimmin, who is 34, drive into the car park opposite and suspected that she had been drinking.

When police approached her she was said to have walked off, appearing to be making an effort to avoid officers.

She was stopped and had her car keys in her possession.

After being taken to police headquarters she failed a breathalyser test with the 90 reading.

When interviewed Shimmin, who lives at Close Ollay, gave a ’no comment’ response to all questions.

Defence advocate Jim Travers entered a basis of plea on behalf of his client, in which Shimmin said she had consumed a drink after parking, which may have slightly reduced the reading. She did however accept being sentenced on the 90 reading.

A probation report said that Shimmin had self-referred to Motiv8 as she had had an issue with alcohol since July.

Mr Travers said: ’She was entirely co-operative with police and has sought assistance off her own bat.’

High Bailiff Mrs Hughes also ordered Shimmin to pay £125 prosecution costs which she will pay at a rate of £5 per week deducted from benefits
