A man who racially abused a staff member at the Front Porch bar in Douglas has been put on probation for 12 months.
Callum Duane Clarke, of Mona Street, Douglas, used a racist term and threatened to burn the staff member’s family.
The 31-year-old admitted an offence of disorderly behaviour on licensed premises and was also handed a 12-month licensing ban.
Prosecuting advocate Chrissie Hunt told the court that Clarke was at the Duke Street pub on December 14 at 3.30pm.
He was drinking brandy but at 4.30pm was refused service due to being too drunk.
This sparked him to launch a racist tirade using the ’N’ word three times.
He was later arrested and when interviewed by police was said to be extremely remorseful.
A probation report said that, when asked how drunk he was on a scale of one to 10 Clarke had answered: ’25’.
He told probation he had drunk three bottles of wine before arriving at the Front Porch
Clarke also said that he had been taking his prescription medication before drinking as well.
The report said that he was involved with the Drug and Alcohol Team but Clarke had said he was not alcohol-dependent but did binge drink.
Defence advocate Louise Cooil said that Clarke had split with his partner the day before the incident which had perhaps resulted in the binge drinking on that day in question.
The court heard that his last offence was in October 2018.
Ms Cooil said that Clarke had struggled to listen to the prosecution description of his behaviour and had since visited the Front Porch to apologise in person.
High Bailiff Jayne Hughes said: ’Thankfully racially aggravated offences are rare in the Isle of Man and I’d like to keep it that way. Your behaviour was appalling.’
Clarke was also ordered to pay £125 prosecution costs.
