A road rage incident ended with two men trading punches in the middle of the main road in Kirk Michael.

Edward Michael Lewin, of The Lharghan in Glen Maye, pleaded guilty to affray, failing to stop for police, and driving without due care and attention and will be sentenced on May 23.

Prosecutor Michael Jelski told the court how the trouble started on February 16 at 11am when Lewin, who is 38, was driving into Kirk Michael coming from Ballacraine. Another car, coming from the direction of Glen Wyllin, pulled out in front of Lewin, with the driver sticking two fingers up as he passed.

Lewin drove after the man, overtaking him and then pulling up in front, causing him to stop.

Both men got out of their cars but Lewin was said to have punched the man in the head sparking a brawl.

As other cars passed the two men exchanged blows. One witness even filmed the fight on her phone.

Another witness described the fight as a ’blur of fists’ and said that the two men were ’trying to hurt each other’.

Lewin then stormed off kicking the other man’s car as he left, smashing the rear light.

Lewin was later arrested and the other man was said to have been formally cautioned.

In a second incident, on March 26, Lewin was seen driving in Ramsey. Police checks revealed that his licence had expired.

He was stopped at Bishopscourt but stayed in the car swearing at police several times.

He was then said to have revved his engine loudly and driven off, narrowly missing one of the officers as he made off.

Police chased Lewin with sirens blaring as he overtook cars, causing other vehicles to stop as he passed.

He was eventually cornered at a private farm but still refused to get out of the car for 20 minutes before being arrested.

Lewin said to police: ’You are picking on me, I’ve had enough of you all. I haven’t got enough money to pay my tax.’
