A 41-year-old woman has been fined £150 for shoplifting from Dealz and Jacs Stores.
Alison Beckley admitted two counts of theft and was also ordered by magistrates to pay £125 prosecution costs.
Prosecuting advocate Barry Swain told the court how Beckley was seen in Dealz in Strand Street on September 2.
She put a pair of leggings valued at £5 into her bag then paid for other items, but not the leggings, before leaving the store.
Beckley then went to Jacs Stores across the road and took several items, valued at a total of £10.98, without paying.
After being arrested, Beckley told police she had ’forgot’ to pay.
Defence advocate Stephen Wood said that the offences had been of low value and unsophisticated.
Mr Wood said that Beckley, who lives in Derby Road, Douglas, was currently paying a £750 fine from earlier this year at a rate of £10 per week.
’She has held her hands up and pled guilty,’ said the advocate.
’I would submit that one isn’t eligible for the raft of benefits she receives unless one has significant difficulties.
’Ms Beckley works for a charity and risks her employment if she continues with offences such as this.’
Magistrates ordered her to pay the fine and costs at a rate of £10 per week, deducted from benefits, after her previous fine is paid off.
