Firefighters from Laxey, Kirk Michael and Ramsey were sent to a house fire in Ramsey this morning and rescued a sleeping occupant.
At just before 11am two fire appliances from Ramey were sent to Summerland Road after receiving a report of an electrical appliance overheating.
When they got there, crews realised that the smell was actually coming from a neighbouring property.
They found the kitchen of the neighbouring building was alight.
Ramsey crews then called out colleagues from Laxey and Kirk Michael to help.
They forced an entry into the property to put out the fire.
At the same time, they checked the rest of the building and helped one occupant, who had been asleep on an upper floor, to leave the building.
The property was fitted throughout with smoke alarms, which all activated.
The fire was confined to the rear annex of the property, with heavy smoke damage to the lower ground floor of the building.
Crews were there for just over an hour.
An investigation revealed that the cause was a faulty electrical kitchen appliance.
