Customers were evacuated from the Sound cafe this afternoon after grass outside caught fire.

The fire on a grass bank at the side of the cafe came after a coach backed up to park, and the heat of the exhaust caused the tinder-dry vegetation to burst into flames.

Staff member Chris Pope said: 'We evacuated the building and ran in and out with buckets of water until the fire brigade got here.’

He estimated that 60 to 70 customers were evacuated.

The fire was quickly brought under control and, with no damage to the building itself, the cafe is now back up and running.
