Being found with 0.6g of cocaine has earned a teenager a £500 fine.
Blayne Mason Niall Brian Quinn, aged 19, of Achallagan Terrace, Foxdale was sentenced by Deputy High Bailiff Chris Arrowsmith last week.
The court heard police stopped a car in Foxdale, in which Quinn was a passenger, on September 22 at 11.10pm.
Following a subsequent search of his home address, a wrap was discovered in a bag in his room, which he initially denied having knowledge of. He gave no reply to police caution.
Prosecutor Rachael Braidwood said tests confirmed the wrap was 0.6g of cocaine with a street value of £60.
Defence advocate Paul Glover said his client had pleaded guilty at the first possible opportunity and pointed out the amount of cocaine, which was for personal use, was a ’relatively small amount’.
He also stressed Quinn’s young age and how character references spoke highly of him.
Mr Glover said the probation report into Quinn said ’it’s in his hands’. And he added that Quinn has ’now well and truly turned a corner in his life’.
Deputy High Bailiff Arrowsmith said: ’Possession of Class A drugs is a serious matter.’ But he noted Quinn is a young man and hoped it was ’a blip’.
He added: ’Mr Quinn is a young man with a bright future and the future is up to him.’
He warned Quinn that he faced ’real jeopardy’ going to prison if he was brought to court on another drugs charge in the future.
Mr Arrowsmith fined Quinn £500 and ordered him to pay £125 costs.
Quinn is subject to a suspended sentence imposed by the Court of General Gaol Delivery and Mr Arrowsmith warned him that court may choose to revisit the matter.
