A teenager has admitted possession of cannabis and ketamine with intent to supply.

Eoghan Thewlis also pleaded guilty to a money laundering offence after £1,280 in cash was found with the drugs at his home.

The 19-year-old will be sentenced on July 30 at the Court of General Gaol Delivery after a probation report has been completed.

Prosecuting advocate Hazel Carroon told the court that police executed a search warrant on December 18 at Thewlis’s home in Fistard Road, Port St Mary.

Officers found 69.7 grams of cannabis resin, valued at £398, 3.2 grams of herbal cannabis, said to be worth £96, and 1.1 grams of ketamine, with a street value of between £45 and £55.

Also found were scales, snap bags, and £1,280 in cash.

Thewlis’s phone was examined and Snapchat messages were found which implicated him in the supply of the drugs.

On June 11 another search warrant was executed at the teenager’s home and a further 1.7 grams of cannabis, valued at £51, was found.

Ms Carroon submitted that the case was not suitable for summary court sentencing.

Thewlis pleaded guilty to two counts of possession of cannabis with intent to supply, one of possession of ketamine with intent to supply, one of possession of criminal property, namely £1,280 in cash, and one of simple possession of cannabis.

record

Defence advocate Laurence Vaughan-Williams said that the only thing on his client’s record was a caution six years ago for a minor theft.

The advocate said that his client was in full-time employment, serving an apprenticeship.

He said: ’This is a situation where you have a basically talented, smart young man who just happens to have got it wrong.’

Mr Vaughan-Williams pointed out that there had been no charge of supplying drugs laid, despite the mention of the phone analysis, and submitted that the case would have been suitable for summary court sentencing but for the requirement for a confiscation order.

High Bailiff Jayne Hughes said that the case would have had to go to the higher court so that the confiscation order could be made for the cash, but stated that she would have committed the case regardless of this.

Bail was granted with conditions to live at his home address, to contact probation and not leave the island without court consent.
