A Ramsey teenager has been put on probation for crashing her mother’s car after she had been drinking.
Amy Mackie, of Quayside Lane, then swore at hospital staff at Noble’s.
The 17-year-old admitted taking a vehicle without consent, driving while unfit, having no insurance and resisting arrest. Magistrates sentenced her to 12 months’ probation and banned her from driving for 12 months with an order to take an extended test at the end of the ban.
Prosecutor Roger Kane told the court that police were called to an accident involving a Renault Megane at Tholt y Will on July 28 at 9.50pm.
Mackie admitted she had been driving despite only holding a provisional licence and neither of the other two occupants holding a full licence.
She was taken to Noble’s Hospital and was said to have swore at staff who would not let her have her phone.
At police headquarters a breathalyser test produced a reading of 32 - the legal limit is 35 - but because of the time lapsed since the accident a doctor’s report said that she would have been over the legal limit at the time of the crash.
A probation report said that Mackie had been drinking at her mum’s home with the two friends when one of them had asked her for a lift home.
She said she had lost control of the car and hit a wall.
Advocate Stephen Wood highlighted his client’s immediate guilty pleas and young age.
’It is important she learn from her mistakes and never repeat this behaviour in future,’ said the advocate.
’She allowed herself to be persuaded to take her mother’s car without permission after consuming alcohol.’
Mr Wood went on to say that Mackie was arranging to pay back the insurance company which had paid out £700 and asked that she be spared a ban on entering licensed premises due to her work.
Magistrates banned her from purchasing alcohol for 12 months and ordered her to pay £125 prosecution costs.
