Two teenagers have appeared in court after smashing windows in a bus shelter in Lord Street.
Sean Daniel Fitzpatrick, aged 17, of Derby Road, Douglas, was sentenced to two weeks’ custody, to run consecutively to an 18-week sentence he is already serving.
A 16-year-old girl from the south of the island, who cannot be named for legal reasons, was sentenced to a six-month probation order, to run concurrently with a six-month probation order she is already under.
Prosecutor Roger Kane told the court how, on August 8 at 4.20am, Fitzpatrick and the girl used stones to smash three glass panels in the Lord Street bus shelter.
The damage, valued at £875, was reported to police and the pair were identified by CCTV footage.
Police went to Fitzpatrick’s address but he refused to be interviewed and the teenage girl failed to attend an arranged interview but both pleaded guilty to damaging property.
Defending Fitzpatrick, advocate Rebecca Cubbon said: ’At the time of the offence Mr Fitzpatrick was 16. He intends to leave the Isle of Man to get away from influences. His mother has put plans in place for him to stay with family.
’He has held his hands up and accepted his part in the offence. He described his behaviour as immature and stupid. He wishes to turn over a new leaf.’ Ms Cubbon said her client had no means of paying any fine.
Defending the 16-year-old girl, advocate David Reynolds said: ’A probation report was requested but unfortunately she didn’t co-operate which resulted in her being sentenced without a report. But I am led to believe she has subsequently attended two appointments which is clearly a significant difference in attitude.
’There is a revolving door with the same offenders being before the court. But she has not been arrested for further offences which is clearly a step forward.’
Mr Reynolds said his client’s mother would have to pay any fine and costs.
Magistrates ordered that Fitzpatrick pay no compensation due to being in custody but the girl was ordered to pay £291.66 compensation.
