Police say they have arrested a 26-year-old man for failing to self-isolate.
This is the first arrest made since the government announced sweeping new emergency powers to deal with the coronavirus crisis.
Those breaching strict quarantine rules could face a fine of up to £10,000 or three months in jail.
The first coronavirus case in the island was confirmed late last night.
Anyone travelling to the island by air or sea has to self-isolate for 14 days, even if they don’t have symptoms.
In a statement posted this morning, the central neighbourhood policing team said they had a man in custody for allegedly failing to adhere to the new legislation requiring him to self-isolate.Officers confirmed the arrested man is a 26-year-old from the island who had been visiting the UK and had come back on the ferry from Heysham. He has no symptoms of Covid-19.Police said: ‘Please follow the guidance issued by the government and think about the safety of the community. ‘This is an ever-evolving situation and it is important we act in the best interests of keeping people safe.’
