A primary school was hit by a group of vandals who damaged its playground and tried to light two fires.

Police reported that ’a group of youths’ entered Port St Mary Primary School’s playground over the weekend (November 1 to 3) where they damaged school equipment and left ’a substantial amount’ of litter behind.

They also attempted to start two small fires.

A police spokesman said: ’Speaking with the school, they are very disappointed that this has happened due to the fact that they are happy to have young people use the facility and have a great relationship with the local community.

’However causing damage will result in others not being able to enjoy the equipment.’

Police are appealing for information in relation to this incident. If you know of anything, contact PC Fargher at Castletown police station.
