A visitor who was caught hiding bundles of cash in the lining of his coat has been remanded at the Isle of Man Prison.

Twenty-eight -year-old Tony Parsons, of Bromley Street, Blackburn, had sewn the money into his coat to try to evade detection during a visit to the island in March.

Police stopped him as he was waiting to board the boat at the Sea Terminal at 6.45pm on March 18.

His Volkswagen Golf was searched and officers recovered six bundles of cash totalling £4,610 and three mobile phones.

At Douglas Courthouse on Tuesday Parsons pleaded guilty to attempting to remove criminal property and was told he will be sentenced at the Court of General Gaol Delivery.

His advocate, Deborah Myerscough, told the court Parsons wished to surrender his bail as he was finding it difficult to attend court hearings.

’He understands that prison is not a hotel but it is causing him hardship to continue to travel,’ she said.

Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes agreed to revoke bail.

Parsons was remanded until his next court appearance on August 25.
