A teenage shop worker has been fined £300 for being drunk and disorderly.

Courtney Annie Caprice Shimmin, of Cullyn Path, Anagh Coar, admitted the offence, which took place outside Bordellos, and was also ordered to pay £125 prosecution costs.

Prosecutor Roger Kane told the court how, on November 10 at 1.50am, police were called to the nightclub on Loch Promenade, Douglas.

Members of the public were spoken to about an alleged assault inside the club but no complaint was made.

Shimmin, who is 18, was told by police to leave the area but as she was getting into a car she was said to have lunged at another woman and shouted aggressively.

She was subsequently arrested.

Defence advocate Stephen Wood said: ‘There had been a disagreement between Ms Shimmin and a woman inside. The two of them were asked to leave.

‘Ms Shimmin foolishly got out of the car she had got into. Throughout that time this other female was shouting abuse. Ms Shimmin’s mistake was that she should have stayed in the car.’

Mr Wood went on to say that Shimmin had recently been promoted in her job at Spar.

‘It would be extremely regrettable if she lost that job as a result of her behaviour,’ said the advocate.

‘Her stepfather runs licensed premises so she spends a lot of time above licensed premises.

‘If a ban was imposed she is not going to be able to go downstairs.

‘There was an element of provocation. This lady was outside shouting back at her. It was spur of the moment and not long lasting in terms of her reaction. She has learned a valuable lesson from her night in the cells.’

Deputy High Bailiff Jayne Hughes told Shimmin: ‘You need to think very carefully about the amount of alcohol you are consuming.’
