A Douglas woman has been handed a suspended prison sentence after carrying out three assaults on her former partner.

Erin Rose Price, of York Road, threw a butter knife at her victim. And during another incident she injured his eye.

The 36-year-old was found guilty after a trial of two counts of assault causing actual bodily harm and one of common assault.

High Bailiff Jayne Hughes sentenced her to 16 weeks custody, suspended for two years, when she appeared in court on Tuesday.

Defence advocate Louise Cooil said: ’This was a family situation which has quite severe complexities.

’It was perhaps a pressure cooker situation for all members of the family to be involved in.’

Ms Cooil said that since the incident Price had self-referred to mental health services but due to the waiting list being so long, had spoken to the crisis referral team and the Samaritans.

A probation report said that the effects of a custodial sentence for Price would be ’catastrophic’ and assessed her as a low risk of reoffending and harm to others.

References described Price as a ’loving, kind and caring mother.’

The court heard that she has no previous convictions.

High Bailiff Mrs Hughes said that she had taken into account difficult personal circumstances which the incidents had arisen from and that Price had taken steps to get help.

Price must also pay costs of £500.
