A woman lost a false tooth as she sunk her teeth into a bouncer’s arm and refused to release her grip.

Michelle Anne McGovern, aged 38, of Harcroft Meadow, admitted charges of assault causing actual bodily harm and disorderly behaviour on licensed premises.

The incident, at Jaks bar on June 7, sparked a melee outside in Granville Street which ended with McGovern’s father and mother also being arrested.

They were dealt with on a previous court appearance with Kenneth Patrick McGovern, aged 62, of Harcroft Meadow, and Veronica McGovern, aged 58, of Castle Mona Avenue, fined £700 each after admitting obstructing police.

Magistrates deemed their daughter’s biting offence so serious that it was committed to the Court of General Gaol Delivery where she will appear on July 15.

Prosecutor Roger Kane told the court how McGovern was in Jaks at 12.15am on June 7 when she was asked to calm down by security staff.

McGovern reacted by pushing the bouncer who then put her arm around the front of McGovern to escort her from the bar.

However, McGovern then sunk her teeth into the bouncer’s arm, locking on and refusing to release her grip.

She bit the woman’s arm with such force that a false tooth was said to have fallen out.

McGovern was taken outside and when police arrived to arrest her they took her into Granville Street at the side of Jaks to move away from crowds.

It was then that her mother Veronica arrived clutching a bottle and poured its contents over an officer during a scuffle as she demanded that her daughter be released.

Chaotic

Kenneth McGovern, the father, also arrived amid what were described as ’chaotic’ scenes due to a number of people having gathered.

He also demanded that his daughter be released and attempted to push police away from her. Police were said to be surrounded by members of the public making their job more complicated as father, mother and daughter were all arrested.

Defending Michelle McGovern in court, advocate Paul Glover asked for a probation report to be compiled before sentencing.

Bail was granted in the sum of £500 with conditions that McGovern reside at her home address and not leave the island without court permission.
