There will be a festive atmosphere, celebrating the olden days of variety entertainment, at the Manx Museum next weekend, with an afternoon of entertainment and games.
Running under the title ’The Good Old Days’, the annual Christmas concert, organised by Manx National Heritage takes place on Sunday, December 16, from 2pm, and will be created around the exhibition, ’That’s Entertainment’, which is currently on display at the museum.
Appearing at the concert are the Lon Dhoo Male Voice Choir supported by Val Kissack, the Manx folk dance group Perree Bane, Dance Dynamics and atmospheric music from Ellan Vannin Pipes and Drums.
In addition to musical entertainment and dance acts, the concert will also include a magic show by Juan Corrin, the current Magician of Mann, alongside appearances by Val Doonican and George Formby lookalikes and festive monologues, performed by special guests.
The ’That’s Entertainment’ exhibition contains artefacts and memories of the island’s heyday as a destination of choice for holiday makers, from the pre-Victorian 1800s up until the mid-20th century.
Alan Kinvig, Museum and Sites Manager for Manx National Heritage said:
’Our Christmas Concert is a popular annual event at the Manx Museum.
’Each year, the concerts links to the exhibitions we have on display at the museum, with the upcoming concert coinciding with "That’s Entertainment", an exhibition focusing on entertainment in the holiday heydays on the Isle of Man.
’Our team are very much looking forward to staging this year’s concert, which promises to provide a heavy dose of laughter.
’Guests are encouraged to arrive ready to sing along, and if desired, dress for the occasion in any style they wish from the "Good Old Days".’
Tickets for the concert are £10, available from the Manx Museum Shop, and online from manxnationalheritage.im/shop.
