This is the moment that TT rider Matthew Rees proposed to his girlfriend of two years, Danielle Ashburner.

Danielle thought she was going with Matthew to collect motorcycle parts, but instead, he took her down to The Sound and proposed to her.

But Matthew Rees spun her a line he was meeting a man at The Sound to get parts for his race bike, but instead the stage was set with a photographer on hand for when he popped the question.

Matthew, aged 35, from Aberdare in South Wales, said: ’The setting and weather were just perfect for it, and I am so happy that Jim (the photographer) was there to capture the moment.’

The couple met two years ago through the TT, when Danielle was working for Scott Physiotherapy in the paddock. Matthew said he was nervous proposing, even more so than when hurtling down Bray Hill on his race bike.

Danielle, aged 29, from Redcar, now works as a fitness instructor and for the NHS in Wales.

She had no idea that he had planned this, and was shocked when he went down on one knee.

The moment was captured by photographer Jim Gibson from Ellan Vannin Images, who then presented them with their first engagement present, an A3-sized print of the moment, which they said was the perfect momento of the occasion.
