More than 40 children lent their voices to a project to create an inspiring rendition of a famous Manx song.
Following an appeal for volunteers by music teacher and choir leader Katie Lawrence, many children took up the challenge to self-record and video themselves singing a special version of Ellan Vannin.
The final 40 tracks were mixed and edited together by sound engineer David Rowles to produce a choral version of the song, which was uploaded, along with a video, produced by Glenn Whorrall, to the Isle of Man Government’s Facebook page.
In the short space of time the video has been public, the results have already been viewed more than 31,000 times.
The children were required to download a specially-prepared backing track, recorded by Katie, and sing along to the provided guide vocal in the correct timing and pitch.
’They could either sing along with the guide vocals that I provided or sing unaccompanied, as long as it was in the same tune,’ said Katie.
’They all sounded great, their timings were spot on and it made it easier to put together.
’It was an idea to get kids involved and enthused about singing while we were off, and to give them something to do.
’Also, it was an idea to create some kind of memento for the very bizarre times we are living in at the moment.’
Katie thanked David and Glenn for their help and enthusiasm in bringing the project to the public.
