When no less a figure than Robert Plant says ’You should all check her out, she has a wonderful voice,’ maybe you should listen.

Southern American singer and songwriter Lisa Mills, from Mobile Alabama, in the USA, is to make her debut appearance on the island this weekend, with a solo concert at the Basement Bar, Wellington Street, Douglas, this coming Saturday, from 7.30pm.

The purveyor of blues, country, gospel and soul Americana is on the middle of an extensive European tour, in support of her latest CD, Mama’s Juke Box, and has been packing in crowds across Germany and the UK, prior to her concert here.

She then returns to Europe, before criss-crossing the Atlantic t, appearing at many European and American festivals throughout the summer.

The well-travelled musician is looking forward to her Manx trip.

’One of the many blessings of following my passion for making music is getting to explore new places and meeting new people,’ said Lisa.

’I’m very excited to finally be visiting the Isle of Man after hearing about it for many years.

’Before now, all I really knew about the Isle of Man came through my UK booking agency,Movin Music.

’Since then, I looked at information on the web and I must say, it’s an intriguing place with its Celtic and Viking history, for one.

’The photos I’ve seen are stunning! I can’t wait to see it for myself. The Basement looks like a wonderful venue too.’

Lisa said that her gig at the weekend will feature songs from her forthcoming live CD which she recorded in America, along with a few surprise song choices.

’When it comes to my solo performances, I like to keep things fluid, focusing on the connection with my audience and being completely in the moment,’ she said, looking forward to her concert.

’I will perform songs from most of my albums, including several from a new live CD recorded recently in Mobile, Alabama at a very special venue called The Listening Room of Mobile.

’You never know what might come up as a surprise sometimes.’

Tickets for Lisa Mills are £16.31, available online from the Basement Bar Facebook page.
