The popular Andreas Produce Show was held on Thursday with the usual eye catching displays of fresh produce, artwork and more.

The show, which first began as the Andreas Root Show in 1895, is the last major produce show of the season and a highlight of the farming and gardening year and many growers save their best produce for the occasion.

Held in the parish hall, Kirk Andreas, the show was opened by Tim Baker MHK, followed by a performance by a group of dancers from Andreas School.

The show is open to competitors from all over the island and the schedule included classes for vegetables, fruit, flowers, floral art, preserves, honey, wine, crafts and photography.

There were plump carrots, large juicy beetroots and mouth-watering cakes laid out on display on tables in the hall.

There were also potatoes, courgettes, shortbread, scones, sponge cakes, hens’ eggs and butter but one of the show’s undoubted stars was John Crebbin’s winning pumpkin which weighed in at a mighty 125 kilograms.

Mike Garrett produced a prizewinning selection of vegetables while Faye Kinley, nine, won a Best in Show cup for her artwork.
