Applications are now open for community groups to apply for grants of up to £30,000 from the Co-op’s Community Partnership Fund.
This fund has already ringfenced £40,000 to develop three community fridges and food hubs in the island.
Now, the Co-op is inviting community groups to apply for their share of £60,000 o support ‘fairer access to mental wellbeing and opportunities’ for young people.
Funds have been generated by Co-op members, with 2p in every pound spent by members on Co-op products and services shared between the Local Community Fund for local causes and the Community Partnerships Fund.
Research from a recent Charity Commission survey shows that two thirds of charities anticipate a threat to their financial position in the next 12 months, with a third expecting to generate less revenue from fundraising and donations this year.
Rebecca Birkbeck, director of community and membership at the Co-op said: ‘With the cost of living rising already this year, charities are likely to bear the brunt of people being more conscious about their spending.
‘At the Co-op we work hard to bring people together to “co-operate for a fairer world”. Through our Community Partnership Fund, we partner with like-minded community groups that focus their support on mental wellbeing, access to food and providing opportunities for young people, because we know all of these make a huge contribution to fairer, more resilient and happier communities.
‘We’re encouraging community groups on the Isle of Man to apply for a grant from our Community Partnership Fund, so they can continue to make a real difference in their community.’
Applications close on March 31.
