A range of artworks capturing the essence and the beauty of the Manx landscape has gone on display in Peel.

The ’Art Of Nature’ exhibition was unveiled at the House of Manannan, in Peel, on Friday.

The exhibition features more than 100 paintings of aspects of the Manx countryside, from stunning scenic watercolours of the coastline at Niarbyl to large scale, almost impressionist paintings of people enjoying the island’s glens and countryside walks, through to abstracts, detailed paintings of shellfish and embroidered designs of local motifs and animals.

Artists such as Michael Starkey, Sally Black, Eileen Schaer and Janice Cottier have all taken part

The ’Art of Nature’ exhibition is a collaborative effort between Manx National Heritage, Manx Wildlife Trust and many of the island’s artists, who were brought together with the help of local artist, Mannin Art Society member and Manx Wildlife Trust volunteer Jean Buck MBE.

’The Art of Nature Exhibition has given Isle of Man artists an opportunity to display all mediums of their work and show their enthusiasm to support wildlife conservation on the island,’ said Jean.

’The Mannin Art Group was established 70 years ago with great Manx artists, including John Nicholson and William Hoggatt , who wanted to portray the countryside.

’Coordinating this exhibition has been a joy for me, creating awareness of the importance of protecting the island for a wilder future.’

The exhibition was opened by the Lieutenant Governor Sir Richard Gozney, along with Edmund Southworth, director of Manx National Heritage and chief executive officer of the Manx Wildlife Trust, Leigh Morris.
