A well-known arts studio and educational group have begun a series of free weekly online arts courses.
The artists from Artreach, based at the Isle Contemporary gallery, Tynwald Mills, have started to hold two free weekly arts sessions on Monday afternoons, from 2pm, and Thursdays, from 4pm.
The sessions are run by artists Kate Jerry and Colette Gambell and open for both children and adults alike to join in with, regardless of artistic ability.
Each session is themed, and begin with simple exercises to open up your artistic side and use your spare time creatively.
Colette and Kate run regular adult art workshops and school holiday sessions and art ’bootcamps’ for children under 16.
They were already in the process of planning to host online workshops when the government restrictions came into place and found themselves in a good position to offer the free courses.
’Providing online workshops was always part of our plan although the success of our physical workshops, alongside practising as artists and running a gallery, had meant there was little time for us to bring this to fruition,’ said Colette.
’However, with the unfolding events, it became quickly apparent that our physical courses needed to be postponed.
’Although we had scheduled to do so later in the year, having everything temporarily frozen has provided a window in which we can really accelerate this process and adapt to fit this very surreal situation.’
The team still intend to carry on with their regular arts courses and plan to launch the first course, run under the theme ’By the Sea’, within the near future. The free courses are available to access through the Artreach Facebook and Instagram pages.
