Wearing little more than killer high heels and a well-placed feather boa, the ladies (and gents) from the Queens and Tassels Burlesque dancers will perform their latest show in Peel this weekend.
’Fatal Fishnet Follies’ will see a cast of barely-dressed dancers take to the Peel Centenary Stage tonight, Saturday, October 5, from 7pm for a burlesque show with a difference.
The show will take the form of a play, narrated by the lead character Queenie, and will follow her as she tries to open Peel’s first Burlesque club, and will feature many of the island’s Burlesque dancers, including Hazel Walsh, Rachel Crellin, Gwenael LaSirene and the leading local drag artist Vida La Fierce, along with newcomer Georgia Lisette, who will play Queenie.
Hazel said that Fatal Fishnet Follies is the first time the group have attempted a show based around a story before.
’The show is basically the story of Queenie as she reflects on her life, her three past husbands and what she went through to get the money she needed to open her own burlesque club "Queenie’s Plaice" in Peel,’ said Hazel.
’Each part of her life is enacted in song and dance by the various characters throughout the show.’
The play is populated with a fishy cast of colourful characters, such as Miss Tuna Turner, Angelfish X, Captain Jean Henri De Langoustine, Prawn French and the "kittens", Scampi and Shrimpy.
’We have a full script and characters which is a bit of change for us.
’It was written by our friend Amy Nash, who came up with a load of great ideas.
’We let her loose on a script, and she came up with something that has murder, burlesque, dance and drag all rolled into one.’
Hazel said that the show will still include all the elements that have made their previous shows such a success in the past.
’It is a very funny show,’ she said.
’We have gone down a more comedy cabaret route than our last show.
’Although, if it is possible, it is slightly more inappropriate than last time, but with a lot of humour thrown in.’
Tickets for ’Fatal Fishnet Follies’ are £18, and are available online from etickets.im/cc
