Terence McDonald, advocate and senior counsel at MannBenham Advocates, was the proud recipient of The Isle of Man Law Society’s Deemster Kerruish Endeavour Award.

The award was created 10 years ago in memory of the much loved and respected First Deemster Michael Kerruish.

His principles of ’never give up and always do your best’ are the core assessment criteria for advocates who have shown the highest level of endeavour, whether professionally or within the community.

The presentation was introduced by former Deemster and Honour Judge of Appeal Geoffrey Tattersall QC, over a video conference call.

He complimented Mr McDonald ’on building a great reputation in practising law over almost 30 years and being a valued member of the Isle of Man Law Society.

It was Terence’s unquenchable enthusiasm around the organisation of the 100 years’ commemoration of the Great War and the production of the ’’Soldiers of Law’’ memorial booklet that contributed to his successful nomination for the award.’

Mr Tattersall added: ’Deemster Kerruish would have applauded Terence’s efforts and is a worthy recipient of the award.’

Mr McDonald was joined by Marianne Kerruish, the wife of the late Deemster, and presented the award by Tim Smith, president of the Isle of Man Law Society, with a beautiful, personalised illuminated certificate created by local artist Colleen Corlett.

It’s seen as a small way to mark the passing of such a significant man and the society says all holders of the award should be proud that their names will be associated with that of the First Deemster.

Mr McDonald went on to give thanks to the Law Society for the award, and that the affection and respect which followed Deemster Kerruish through his legal career set him apart from his peers, so thoroughly embedded in the hearts and minds of those that knew him.

Meanwhile MannBenham Fiduciaries has a new appointment, Matthew Devine, within its compliance team.

Over almost a decade Mr Devine has gained extensive understanding of the compliance requirements for the online and terrestrial e-gaming industry.

Having been an inspector with the Isle of Man Gambling Supervision Commission and also having worked in the private corporate sector, he has insight into how the e-gaming sector operates. He specialises in anti-money laundering compliance, social responsibility and the use of crypto-currencies for ebusiness.

Carly Stratton, head of business and e-gaming at MannBenham Advocates said: ’We are delighted to have Matthew working with us.

He will be a great asset.’
